The sudden spread of COVID-19 has not only claimed lives, it is having an unprecedented impact on global economic activity. This health crisis is believed to cause the worst recession since the Great Depression with a sharp 3% contraction of the global economy, much worse than during the 2008-09 financial crisis. The severity of the shock has triggered strict containment measures worldwide such as quarantines, regional lockdowns, border closures, travel bans (which have been decisive in containing the virus) curtailing mobility and leading to substantial production disruptions and output losses.
We hope that this Survey will be a useful tool and reliable source of feedback in providing state authorities and policymakers with deeper insights into the current situation and business needs. Thus, it will contribute to the government’s efforts to mitigate the economic and financial disruptions and to move to rapid recovery. To do this, we will invest further effort to stay responsive, to support our members and clients with latest information and to stimulate constructive dialogue with the Azerbaijani government to map the best way forward.
